About
Tree of Life Community Development Corporation (TOLCDC) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 entity created to revitalize and serve our community by members with a stake in the community itself. Although TOLCDC exists to extend Mt. Pleasant Worship and Outreach Center’s work and mission, it is an entity independent from the church.
Mission
Our mission is to serve as an agent of transformation. We partner with residents, businesses and organizations to improve the quality of life in the community in which we live, work and worship. We believe in breaking cycles of poverty, academic and economic failure while creating cycles of new life. Through programming, partnerships and collaborations, Tree of Life CDC will equip our community with tools that build resiliency and self-reliance, and that enhance its quality of life and success potential.
Leadership
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Phillip Anthony Walker has been the Senior Pastor of Mt. Pleasant Worship & Outreach Center (MPWOC) since 1994, bringing more than two decades of leadership experience to Tree of Life. His passion is urban ministry and revitalizing distressed communities through spiritual and economic empowerment and relational development.
Before becoming the full-time shepherd, Apostle Walker was a software engineer at IBM. He accepted the call to preach the gospel in September 1977 and ordained in October 1979. His spiritual foundation was received under the tutelage of his mother, Lois W. Hinton, pastor and founder of MPWOC.
Walker recently authored a book entitled, An Invitation to the Extraordinary: Releasing the Water-Walker Within.
Governance
Tree of Life CDC is governed by a board of directors made up of civic, business and other professional leaders representing a broad and diverse spectrum of the community.
